We are excited to announce a our partnership with Mistral AI, the Paris-based pioneer in the creation of large language models (LLMs).
Founded by ex-employees of Meta Platforms and Google DeepMind, Mistral rose to prominence in the AI community in 2023 when they launched the world’s most capable open-weights LLMs, Mistral 7B and Mixtral 8×7B. Since then, they have also released an API platform, a chat assistant, several commercial models (not open-source), and an improved open-source Mixtral model.
A key benefit of Mistral is how flexible their solutions are. Both their open and closed models can be deployed outside of the Mistral platform, either via a cloud provider, or on your own dedicated server, ensuring that the data stays fully within your walls, and with advanced levels of customization.
Course launch: Intro to Mistral AI
The first part of this collaboration is a AI Engineering crash course focused on Mistral’s La Plateforme and their JavaScript SDK. Through 25 interactive lessons, it teaches students subjects like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), function calling, running models locally, and a lot more.
The curriculum has been developed in collaboration between Scrimba’s teachers and Mistral’s Head of Developer Advocacy, Sophia Yang.
Per Borgen, CEO of Scrimba, explains why they are embracing Mistral in their content.
“We have been using Mistral’s models in our introductory tutorials on open-source AI engineering for months, simply due to their quality. So it is very natural for us to take this a step further and build out a full-blown course.”
The course is already live, and can be accessed for free via this link.
Enriching Mistral’s documentation
Another initiative under this partnership is to help new developers onboard onto the Mistral API by improving their JavaScript documentation with interactive scrims.
Sophia Yang at Mistral explains why they are excited to use scrims.
“Mistral is a developer-focused company, so it’s important for us to lower the threshold for new developers to start building with our APIs. The scrim format’s unique blend of explanation and experimentation helps us achieve this”, says Yang.
These scrims are meant to provide a hands-on learning experience for quickly grasping the basics of the platform, and will be recorded and deployed at Mistral's La Plateforme evolves.
